Verified to Work with DeLorme Topo USA!!!!!

The various rockhounds lists have been discussing the US Bureau of Mines Masmils disks, so I decided to take a look at things and see what I could do to make the data on them useable with DeLorme’s Street Atlas.  DeLorme has vastly improved their import function and made it plot at a reasonable speed (then again, it might be that I have a 466 MHz machine now, eh?).  Anyway, what I've done is to convert the Masmils data to a Microsoft Access 2000 file and then create a set of extracts that can be pulled into Street Atlas 5 or higher.   The CD-ROM I'm going to burn will have on it:

The "original" MasMils install set data.  (This is public-domain material, by the way, in case any of you were wondering about copyright!)

From the RAW data:

A Conversion to Microsoft Access 2000
A Conversion to Microsoft Access 97
A Conversion to Dbase IV
A full comma-delimited text file

EXTRACTS:

All mines on a state-by-state basis
All mines on a county-by-county basis.
All mines on a commodity-by-commodity basis.
All mines on a commodity-by-commodity, subset by state basis.

Here is what a chunk of the SA7 import files looks like:

All told, this is nearly 7,000 files and over 210,000 mines. In addition, I've included the Visual Basic 6 source code for the routines I used to extract the data.  Do what you will with it!

NOTE:  All extracts, files, software, etc etc are provided "As Is" with no warranty as to accuracy or appropriateness for whatever nefarious purpose you wish to put it to.  If I've screwed up on my data extract procedures, let me know so I can fix it up.  If you have further suggestions for other searches & extracts, let me know so I can include them in future versions of the disk.
