| A tip of the hat to Peter Gillette for
figuring out how to gets my MasMils/PLUS data into a GPS. His clever
solution is to use DeLorme's Street Atlas as a transfer tool. His
discussion talks about using SA2K as the transfer mechanism. Follow
his ideas and you should be able to use ANY of the DeLorme products to
accomplish the transfer. |
- Select the state files you want to load from the
SA state files of the MasMils disk into your Garmin Vista or similar.
- Copy them to a temporary file spot on your
hard drive.
- Start up SA2K and go to the Draw menu.
- Click on File, click on Import, and, in
the menu that pops up, find where your state file was placed earlier.
Select it to open, as a .txt file. It should show up as the series of
red-flagged sites on any map display within the selected state area.
- Click on the GPS menu, make sure your GPS is
connected, although it need not be actually tracking.
- Click on the Exchange...tab to get to the
Exchange Wizard.
- Assuming that your GPS already interacts
properly with SA2K, click on Send To Device, and select Draw File as the
object type.
- On the next screen, select the Draw File named
the same as the state file you're after, or whatever other title that file
has become, now that it's within SA2K. Check the box for prefixing a
number..., in order to not knock out other waypoints already stored , then
click "Send to Device".
- When the transfer is done, check on the GPS for
the list of Waypoints it now stores. Assuming all went well, you're now
good-to-go!
